After reading a report from US News and World Report that Green Bay was ranked number one, I had to see the city for myself. The climate is amazing, and it was the exact break I needed from the sweltering summer heat in Florida.

A Brief History of Green Bay- The Oldest Settlement in Wisconsin
Green Bay, Wisconsin, is one of the oldest settlements in the U.S., founded by French explorer Jean Nicolet in 1634. Initially a fur trade hub, it was controlled by the French and British before becoming part of the United States after the War of 1812.
To learn about Green Bay’s history, visit Heritage Hill State Historical Park. This 56-acre living history museum features over 30 historic buildings and costumed interpreters who reenact daily life from different periods. It provides a fascinating look into the region’s past.
1. Explore the Natural Beauty of Green Bay
When I flew into Green Bay, I was so happy to see how green it was. It is called Green Bay afterall. My favorite part was the location right off of one of the 5 great lakes- Lake Michigan. One thing I knew I had to do was get to the Bay Beach Amusement Park and explore along the lake and river in Green Bay.
Bay Shore Park: Located along the shore of Green Bay, this park offers camping, picnicking, hiking trails, and a boat launch. The views of the bay are stunning, especially at sunset.
Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary: This urban wildlife refuge offers hiking trails, animal exhibits, and a nature center. It’s a great place for bird watching and observing local wildlife.
Green Bay Botanical Garden: Explore beautifully landscaped gardens, seasonal displays, and walking trails. The garden also hosts events and educational programs throughout the year.
Baird Creek Greenway: Enjoy hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing along the trails that wind through forests and along the creek. The area is known for its scenic beauty and diverse flora and fauna.
Fox River Trail: This trail stretches along the Fox River and offers a scenic route for walking, biking, and rollerblading. It passes through downtown Green Bay and offers beautiful views of the river and surrounding landscape.
Titletown Park: Located near Lambeau Field, this park features a large open green space, a playground, and a unique tubing hill in the winter. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy outdoor activities.
Nicolet National Forest: Although a bit of a drive from Green Bay, this national forest offers extensive hiking trails, camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities. It’s a perfect destination for a day trip to immerse yourself in nature.
2. Indulge in the Local Food Scene
Try cheese curds
If you love cheese, you are going to love Wisconsin. I could not visit Wisconsin without trying cheese curds. I tried the cheese curds at a few places and made a little self guided tour of the cheese curds around Green Bay. After trying the cheese curds at a few places, I would say the top place had to be at the Ten O One Club. More on that experience later.
What are cheese curds?
Cheese curds are small, bite-sized pieces of fresh cheese, often made from cheddar. They have a mild flavor and a distinctive squeaky texture when bitten into. Cheese curds are typically enjoyed fresh but can also be battered and deep-fried as a popular snack or appetizer.
Try A Wisconsin Dinner Club
As I told you earlier, the best cheese curds were from the Ten O One Club, but this is more than a place for cheese curds. This was a Wisconsin Supper Club. A Wisconsin supper club is a type of restaurant that originated in the Midwest, particularly in Wisconsin, offering a unique dining experience characterized by a warm, nostalgic atmosphere.
These establishments typically feature a menu of hearty, classic American dishes such as prime rib, fish fry, and broasted chicken, often accompanied by a relish tray, soup or salad, and bread. Supper clubs are known for their social, community-oriented vibe, where diners often start with cocktails at the bar, such as the iconic Brandy Old Fashioned, before moving to the dining area for a leisurely, multi-course meal.
Eat Local At The Saturday Green Bay Farmers Market
Visiting the Green Bay Farmers Market is a delightful experience where you can find fresh, locally grown produce, artisanal foods, and handcrafted goods from over 100 regional vendors. The market, often bustling with activity, provides a vibrant atmosphere with live music and community events that make it a fun outing for all ages.
It’s an excellent opportunity to support local farmers and artisans while enjoying the flavors and culture of Green Bay.There is free yoga in the morning from 8-8:45 am and live music from 9-11:30 am.
Where to eat in Green Bay, Wisconsin
Breakfast Voyageurs Bakehouse
There are many amazing coffee shops in Green Bay, and this was one of my favorites. They have specialty lattes, the must try Wisconsin pickle ham sandwich, and amazing sourdough baked goods. It is popular and I can see why.
Brunch at Delilah’s
Another memorable breakfast and brunch spot is Delilah’s, the service here was 10/10, and the food was amazing. I was there with a group we tried the monkey bread, I got smoked salmon and avocado eggs benedict, and the coffee was also quite good here.
Lunch at the White Dog or Savour On Broadway
There are two places I recommend for lunch White Dog located in the Broadway District of Green Bay, and Savour on Broadway in De Pere. White Dog is more casual, I tried the cheese curds here for the first time and tried to balance it with a poke bowl.
Savour on Broadway is located in the Mulva Cultural Center in De Pere. The natural light, colorful, carefully designed plates, and the Chef created a gourmet menu with locally sourced ingredients. The farm to table dining experience as well as elegant ambiance makes for a great dining experience.
Dinner at Angelina’s or Chefusion
The variety of dining options in Green Bay floored me, and this is only scratching the surface. Angelina’s is a much loved spot by locals for Italian food. I loved eating here in the courtyard, and trying the Pappardelle ai Gamberi. This restaurant has been serving the Green Bay area since 1998.
If you are looking for a fine dining experience in Green Bay, I recommend Chefusion. However, come hungry, because many of the best dining options here are part of a 3 course pre fixe menu. I had scallops with a rich risotto, a brownie a la mode, and a burrata salad.
3. Immerse Yourself in the Culture and History
Tour Lambeau Field and the Packers Hall of Fame
There is no way you can visit Green Bay Wisconsin without a visit to Lambeau Field. Even if you are not a fan of football, or even the Green Bay Packers it is a sight to behold. The Green Bay Packer stadium is the second largest in the USA. It fits over 80,000 people and it is second to that of the NY Jets stadium.
The surprising thing is New York has around 8 million residents, versus the Green Bay metro area has just over 200,000, yet every game is sold out and they have a waitlist of ove 148,000 names, more than the Green Bay census itself. The tour of Lambeau Field and Hall of Fame costs $50 usd.
If you grow hungry check out the restaurant 1919 Kitchen and Tap. They even have a patio area where you can view the backyards of the homes of some of Green Bay Packer’s biggest fans. Some even have a football field in their backyard, and painted fences in support of the team.
Enjoy Titletown For Entertainment, Food and Drinks
Titletown is an area surrounding Lambeau field and is alive all times of year, but especially in the summer. There are concerts, food truck nights, an experiential restaurant and a brewery.
Here are some highlights:
- 46 Below: This café and bistro offers a cozy spot for breakfast, lunch, or coffee breaks, featuring a menu with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
- Hinterland Brewery: A popular spot for craft beer lovers, Hinterland Brewery offers a range of unique brews and a farm-to-table dining experience with a menu that includes everything from burgers to seafood.
- The Turn: Combining dining with entertainment, The Turn offers Topgolf Swing Suites, where you can play virtual golf and other interactive games while enjoying a meal from their diverse menu.
- Lodge Kohler: A luxury hotel that offers upscale accommodations, a spa, and the Taverne in the Sky restaurant, which provides stunning views of Lambeau Field along with fine dining.
- Ariens Hill: Not only a tubing hill in winter, but also features a full-service bar and grill for refreshments year-round.
These businesses, along with regular events and activities, make Titletown a dynamic and enjoyable destination for both locals and visitors.
Have A Day At The Museum
While in Green Bay I visited two museums that had nothing to do with football, but were extremely interesting: the Automobile Gallery and the Neville Public Museum. The Automobile Gallery in Green Bay is a must-visit for car enthusiasts, offering a personal journey through the history and artistry of automobiles. With over 100 beautifully restored classic and modern cars, you can immerse yourself in the captivating stories and sleek designs of these incredible vehicles.
Visiting the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay offers an engaging experience with its diverse exhibits on art, history, and science. You can explore fascinating displays ranging from prehistoric artifacts to modern art, providing a deep dive into the region’s cultural and natural history. The museum’s interactive exhibits and special programs make it an enriching destination for visitors of all ages.
Attend a performance at the Meyer Theatre
There is a vibrant local theater scene in Green Bay. The Meyer Theatre is a historic Fox Theatre and has been restored to show you what it was like in its’ heyday. The theatre has been in Green Bay since 1930, with inspired decor of the Spanish Garden’s in Sevilla, Spain. It is great for a unique evening out in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
4. Get Adventurous with Unique Things To Do In Green Bay, Wisconsin
Have a Fun Filled Day At Bay Beach Amusement Park
There are not many places left like this in the USA. This is an amusement park run by the city of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Its history dates back to when the park was donated to the city in 1920 with the caveat that they would never increase the price of the tickets for the rides.
I fell in love with the wooden roller coaster called the Zippin Pippin that was moved here from Memphis and was Elvis Presley’s favorite ride. This cost me a total of 6 tickets, which cost $1.50. I also rode the ferris wheel for 4 tickets or $1. Truly this is a one of a kind experience, since I do not know anywhere you can get the thrills or views along Lake Michigan for this price.
Attend a Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau Field
It is possibly to buy tickets to Lambeau field even though all games are sold out by verified reseller tickets for games at Lambeau field. I for sure want to visit one and enjoy a tailgate. However, if you are not able to go to a game, maybe you can visit during the training camp like I did. I got to visit for the first open practice of the season which began on July 22 and stretches into August 22. Of course this changes so look at the Green Bay Packers site for more information.
They have a unique tradition, and one of the cutest in my opinion in the NFL. The bike ride tradition of the Green Bay Packers has been going on for over 60 years. It is a nostalgic community tradition where local kids bring their bikes for the players to ride from the locker room in Lambeau Field, to the Ray Nitschke Field.
If you do not have a bike and your kids want to try out the tradition, a local actually has bikes for kids to borrow to give to players. I never saw a community love a team as much as the spirit I felt around the Green Bay Packers.
Enjoy Local Events In The Summer In Green Bay, Wisconsin
Friday’s On The Fox- June through July you can enjoy the Fox River on the Citydeck boardwalk. Hagemeister Park serves food on their patio as well as drinks, and it is a great spot to enjoy the sunset as well with live music.
Experience the Arts in Green Bay Wisconsin
Green Bay is more than football, I also enjoyed the arts while in Green Bay from an Art Fest to amazing art murals around the city. Artfest was going on the weekend I was in town in July. This is a yearly event where local artists sell their work, and live music acts liven up Downtown Green Bay.
Another place I stopped by in town was the Art Garage, which was hosting the Fringe Festival. This is a creative space where artists have their studios, host galleries, workshops, and community events. I toured the gallery space, which has been open since 2006 in a converted cannery. Just another creative use of the industrious spaces in Green Bay.
Have some extra time? Explore De Pere, Wisconsin
De Pere, Wisconsin, is a charming town with a variety of activities that cater to different interests. From shopping local, to experiencing interesting and unique exhibits at the Mulva, De Pere is definitely worth a stop when visiting the Green Bay Area. I began with a stroll on the main street visiting local shops and art galleries like New Art Space and Blue Door Artworks.
Some local shops have been serving the community for over 100 years including Bosse’s News and Tobacco, and the chocolatier Seroogy’s which has been there since 1899.
A must though is a visit to the architecturally stunning Mulva Cultural Art Center, which has an amazing restaurant onsite Savour on Broadway. The food here is outstanding and made my visit to the Mulva center that much more memorable. This cultural center has a range of films in their theater and rotating exhibits. While I was there I saw Bricktown, a Lego exhibit.
Cultural and artistic experiences abound in De Pere as well. The Broadway Theatre hosts live performances and community theater productions, providing a taste of local talent. Don’t miss Art Alley, an outdoor gallery featuring vibrant murals that reflect the town’s creative spirit.
Where to stay in Green Bay, Wisconsin?
If you are staying Downtown I recommend the Hotel Northland a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. This hotel is so classy, and had a wow factor as you enter this hotel that has been serving the Green Bay Area for over a 100 years. I stayed in a room on the 7th floor with a view of Downtown. I truly enjoyed the historic 1920s ambiance of the hotel. Also, fun fact the hotel runs on Lombardi time, which means all the clocks run 15 minute fast.
The hotel is definitely one of the most swanky in Green Bay, and it is a great way to get acquainted with Downtown Green Bay.
Want to stay closer to Lambeau field stay here
I decided to extend my trip and stay by Lambeau field for training camp. The Hampton Inn Green Bay Stadium was the perfect spot as it was right by the practice field and Lambeau Field. There was literally a view of both fields from my hotel. Plus, they include free breakfast as well. It was right near a few restaurants, sports bars to tailgate at, and experience the love go the Green Bay Packers. The rooms had odes to the team as well.
