But maybe this one makes you feel like you are in a Disney movie, because many towns in the Alsace region helped inspire movies like Beauty and the Beast. The Colmar Christmas markets typically run from late November to the end of December. This year the Colmar Christmas Market 2024 is taking place from November 26, 2024 to December 29 2024.
Colmar Christmas Market Opening Hours
The markets are usually open daily from 10 AM to 7 PM. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday they extend their hours until 8PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the festive lights and atmosphere in the evening.The Gourmet Market is open Monday through Sunday 11 am- 10pm.
The Market times Christmas eve, Christmas, and the day after are as follows: Dec 24,2024 10 am to 5pm, Dec 25 11 am to 7 pm , and Dec 26 11 am to 7 pm.
Best Christmas Markets in Colmar, France
Honestly, around every corner I felt like I was running into a Christmas Market, however there are 6 designated Xmas Markets in Colmar. Among the six markets, the ones at Place des Dominicains and Petite Venise are particularly popular. Place des Dominicains, set against the backdrop of the Dominican Church, offers a fairy-tale ambiance, while Petite Venise, with its canal-side setting, is exceptionally picturesque. Both markets are known for their high-quality artisanal goods and festive decorations, making them must-visit locations.
Eguisheim Christmas Market – Want to visit an even smaller town that is built around concentric circles and brings you back in time? Head to Eguisheim, this town is super cute especially during the Christmas Market season. Eguisheim is 5 miles from Colmar and you can reach it by a bus or Uber. I took an Uber to get there and back to Colmar and I recommend coming early as this town gets really busy.
Many say this is one of the prettiest towns in France. It is not to be missed if you are already in Colmar.

I preferred my time in Colmar because I was just a short ride away from another cute quaint Christmas Market in Eguisheim. However, both have their pros and cons.

The city’s cathedral and impressive illuminations add to the festive atmosphere. Spend at least two days in Strasbourg to fully explore the markets and enjoy the holiday events.
- Colmar: Colmar’s markets are smaller but no less enchanting. The town’s medieval architecture and scenic canals provide a beautiful backdrop for the festive stalls. Spend at least one full day in Colmar to explore the markets and soak in the holiday ambiance. I however decided to stay 2 nights in both places to get the full experience.

Colmar is also well-connected by train, with frequent TGV and regional services from Paris (around 2.5 hours), Strasbourg (35 minutes), and other nearby European cities.
